You are free to Hope
You are free to Hope
Even when the days that were once your reality, have become only but wishful thinking, you can still, in the here and now, appreciate, hold on to the little things, you can decide to let go of the life you once had, not by ceasing to think of it, but by living in and hoping that the days ahead will be nothing short of peace and growth and fresh beginnings.
These words were written in the year 2019 and it was the first time I had tested my always-know-i-had-it-in-me writing but it stemmed from my discovery of Morgan Harper Nichols’ daily quotes and I thought to myself that I could try my hand at it, after all, ‘I am free to try’. After I had made a draft on a payment slip, I showed it to my dad who had been prompting me to write, as we were both keen on reading. After going through them, he validated my words by telling me how they were not mere words but that of encouragement and most importantly, hope. He was very big on faith and hope. Verily. I felt excited and a sense of accomplishment that I thought I had to make it into an Instagram post.
I meant those words then, I truly did but I did not know how much more those words would mean a year later.
The world wasn’t as troublesome then as it is now and so these words are no longer just for the confines of a 1080 x 1080 border or for feel-good moments. They have become a watchword that I say to myself when I begin to feel broken and beaten down. I say to myself that no matter how bleak things seem, no matter how dark and loveless this world is, I am allowed to believe that things not would, but might get better. I am free to hope for better days to come. I am free to hope.
